Felt lace technique
2010 “Giving birth to the Felt lace technique“,
a 6-week artist residency at the Maison des Métiers d’art de Québec, as part of a Master’s research in Textile Art with the Ontario Handsweavers and Spinners (OHS).
This is an in-depth study that lays the foundation for a new lace making technique, combining and building on a thorough knowledge of yarn AND felt making.
This technique uses as a textile construction mode, a “free” laying out of carefully selected yarns, which will be optimally attached strictly by felting. The results, with their multiple openwork effects, are easily distinguishable from other known lace making techniques, thus becoming a new lace making technique on its own.
